InkBlossom opened in March 2018 above a bookbinder's workshop on Aiolou Street, a few doors down from the Plaka end where Athens stops being a tourist map and starts being a residential grid. The studio was founded by Ariadne Petrakou — a Heraklion-born botanical illustrator who had spent four years apprenticing at the National Garden's herbarium before retraining as a tattoo artist in Berlin — and Marek Holub, a fine-line tattooer originally from Brno who had worked out of a private studio in Prague for nine years. The two met at a 2016 Stockholm tattoo convention, agreed within a month they wanted to open something together in Athens, and spent eighteen months turning the second-floor flat above the bookbinder into a clean, north-facing two-station studio.
